The CW Hood built HOOD 42 is a high performance cruising powerboat that will launch during the summer of 2009. Matthew Smith, NA provided all of the structural composite engineering and systems layout for the boat.
The fiberglass hull and deck were laminated by C&C Fiberglass in Bristol RI. The structure was designed to exceed the American Bureau of Shipping standards for a High Speed Motor Yacht. The anticipated top speed will be 42 knots so the hull had to not only be built very strong to withstand the forces at these speeds, but also had to be as light as possible so that the top speed could be reached.
The systems onboard the yacht include all of the amentities that are expected in a luxurious yacht of this size. The systems include a generator, bow thruster, air conditioning, refrigeration, ice maker, hot and cold presure water, electrically opening overhead hatches, electronics and an entertainments system that includes a pop up flat screen TV with suround sound. Power is provided by a pair of 542 hp Cummins diesels coupled to Sea Rider surface drives which turn 27" diameter 5 bladed props.
The HOOD 42 is sure to be a head turner when she is launched this summer so check back for launching and sea trial results.
