34' Fin Keel Sloop "SKYLARK"

SKYLARK is a fin keel version of the very popular Buzzards Bay 25 that was designed and built by the Herreshoff Mfg. Co. back in 1914. The original was a shallow draft centerboard hull form with a gaff rig.

The owner wanted to increase the speed potential and was not constrained by draft so a 5ft deep fin keel was chosen. To fully utilize the increased stability from the deeper keel, a high aspect ratio double spreader rig was used.

SKYLARK was expertly built in 2001 by New England Boatworks in Portsmouth, RI with cedar strips and biaxial carbon for the inner and outer skins.

Auxiliary power is provided by a 2 stroke 12 hp sail drive unit mounted under a small engine box in the cockpit.
